Frequently Asked Questions on Podcasting

Q: What is podcasting?

A: Podcasting is a way for busy practitioners to automatically get audio CME programs     sent to them so they can listen to them from a computer or a mobile device (such as     an MP3 player, iPod, handheld Palm or PocketPC device, or mobile phone). Once the     programs are on your computer, you can “sync” them with a mobile device and listen to     them “on the go.”

Q: How does it work?

A: First, you need podcasting software (see examples below) that works with both audio     MP3 files and Adobe PDF files. Now you have two choices on how to subscribe to the     podcasts.

  1. You can select individual CME programs from our website and subscribe to each program.
  2. You can subscribe to all available CME programs and have them automatically sent to your computer (this is called subscribing to a podcast feed). As new programs become available, they will be sent to your computer.

Q: How do I subscribe to a podcast?

A: That depends on the type of podcast software you’re using.

Q: What does it mean to subscribe to a podcast “feed”?

A: By subscribing to a podcast feed, you will automatically receive all the audio CME     podcast programs that are available. As new programs become available, they will be     sent to your computer so that you can “sync” them with your mobile device.

Q: How do I “sync” the podcasts to my mobile device?

A: That depends on the type of device you’re using.

  1. If you’re using an MP3 player or iPod, your podcast software should have instructions on how to “sync” the files.
  2. If you’re using a handheld Palm or PocketPC, you’ll need to use podcast software that is designed for your device to “sync” the files.

Once you “sync” the podcast files with your mobile device, you can listen to them “on the go.”

Q: Do I need to have an iPod or MP3 player to listen to the podcast?

A: No. You can listen to the podcasts right from your computer. Or, you may choose to     “sync” those files from your computer with any mobile device that can play MP3 audio     files (such as digital music players, Palm or PocketPC handhelds, or mobile phones)     and take them “on the go.”

Q: How do I get CME or CE credit for each podcast program?

A: Each podcast program includes an MP3 audio file and an accompanying PDF booklet.
