This case-based session will evaluate the efficacy and safety of current opioid analgesics, discuss criteria for compliance with the newly revised CMS surveyor guidance at F-Tag 309 on pain management, and provide practical strategies to appropriately assess, monitor, and manage pain in long term care residents.
Upon completion of this application-based educational activity, the participant should be able to:

Outline the key points and list the criteria for compliance with the new CMS pain management at F-Tag 309
2.
Describe opportunities for the consultant pharmacist, LTC facility staff, and physicians to work collaboratively to ensure timely and adequate pain management
3.
Summarize practical strategies for recognizing, assessing, and managing pain in the LTC population, particularly for cognitively impaired residents and those experiencing new onset of pain
4.
Evaluate the efficacy and safety of current opioid analgesics to minimize adverse events and optimize pain relief
